In-Ground Bollards in Melbourne
In-ground bollards (also called fixed or concrete-in bollards) are the strongest way to protect people, buildings and assets. The bollard is set 400–600mm into the ground and concreted in, so impact energy transfers into the footing rather than a base plate. Where you need maximum resistance to vehicle impact, ram-raid or runaway trolleys, in-ground is the correct specification.
Sizes & Finishes
Available in 90mm, 114mm, 140mm and 165mm outside diameters with above-ground heights of 900mm to 1600mm. Choose hot-dip galvanised for maximum corrosion resistance, powder coated safety yellow or black for visibility and aesthetics, or 304 stainless steel for premium frontages. Square profile and reflective banded options are also available.
Where They Are Used
Shopfronts and ATMs, warehouse racking and dock corners, pedestrian crossings and footpaths, service stations, substations and gas meter and asset protection applications across Melbourne.
Installation
Concrete surfaces are core drilled; soft ground is excavated and back-filled. Our crews handle bollard installation across Melbourne, or we can supply only. If you need to remove the bollard from time to time, look at removable bollards; if you cannot excavate, use surface mount bollards.
Galvanised, Powder Coated and Stainless In-Ground Bollards
Hot dip galvanising is the workhorse finish for industrial yards, warehouses and exposed car parks because the zinc coating protects the cut edges and the inside of the post. Powder coated safety yellow gives the highest visibility around forklifts and plant, black and white suit architectural and residential settings, and 304 stainless steel is specified for premium retail frontages and bayside suburbs. Reflective banding can be added to any finish, and bollard caps seal the top so water cannot sit inside the post.
Fixed Bollards for Security and Asset Protection
Because the footing does the work, a correctly installed fixed bollard is the strongest option we make. That is why in-ground is the default specification for shopfront and ATM security, gas meters, petrol pumps, switchboards and utility assets, all of which are covered in our asset protection bollard range. Warehouses use the same posts at racking ends, dock corners and forklift aisles.
When Not to Use In-Ground
Suspended slabs, waterproof membranes, post tensioned decks and leased tenancies often rule out core drilling. In those cases use bolt down base plate bollards. If the post has to come out for deliveries or events, choose removable sleeve lock bollards, and for reserved parking bays fold down bollards are usually the better fit.
Custom Sizes and Bulk Supply
We manufacture in Melbourne, so non standard heights, wall thicknesses, square profiles, chain eyes and colour matched finishes are all available through our bespoke fabrication team, with short lead times and no import delay. Volume orders for builders, councils and facility groups are priced per project. Many sites order bollards with car park wheel stops and car park and warehouse safety products on the one delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
How deep should an in-ground bollard go? As a general rule 400mm to 600mm into a concrete footing, deeper in soft ground. The footing diameter and depth should suit the impact you are designing for.
Can you core drill an existing slab? Yes, provided the slab is thick enough and clear of services and reinforcement. Our crews scan and core drill as part of bollard installation in Melbourne.
Which diameter should I choose? 90mm suits pedestrian delineation, 114mm and 140mm cover most car park and warehouse duty, and 165mm is used where vehicle speeds or masses are higher.
Do you deliver outside Melbourne? Yes, Victoria wide and Australia wide. Call 1300 846 039 or request a bulk quote.
